Lorie R. Gorny (nee Dudeck), 101, of Chicago, IL, was born September 16, 1922 in Harvey, IL, and passed away June 20, 2024. She was preceded in death by parents Michael and Anna (nee Wilcezewski) Dudeck, sister to Gertrude, Lucille Kurello, Leonard and Michael Dudeck. Lorie was the beloved wife of Robert L. Gorny, mother of James Gorny and Robert A. Gorny (deceased), Richard (Diane) Gorny, cherished grandmother to James (Stefanie) Gorny and Lynn Gorny, adored great-grandmother of Jaxon Gorny-Lane, and Andrew Gorny and loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Lorie attended Thornton Township High School in Harvey, IL. As a young adult during WWII, Lorie was a Gray Lady, volunteering her time at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. For years she participated in Polish fraternal organizations, including the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, volunteering and eventually holding the title of District 7 Director and a four year term as Lady Vice President. She especially cherished her opportunity to meet Pope John Paul II twice, once in Chicago and once in Rome. Lorie was an artist, designing and selling her jewelry most of her later life. She was known as ‘The Amber Lady', as amber was her specialty - touring Europe and the Dominican Republic collecting precious gemstones for her jewelry and craft.
We will always carry our memories of Lorie. If you would ask Lorie the secret to a long and healthy life, she would respond, “I live life slowly”. Let her remind us to slow down, enjoy the moments, love your family fiercely, and praise God.
Visitation and prayer will take place Wednesday, June 26th from 4 PM to 8 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St., Des Plaines, IL. Funeral will begin Thursday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home and proceed to St. Adalbert Cemetery for a prayer service in the Chapel.
