Erika Mete

Erika Mete, aged 83, passed away peacefully on October 5th at home. She was born on May 21st, 1941 in Hamburg, Germany to Otto and Karoline Conrad. She was proud of both her German heritage and her Italian culture which she inherited from her husband, Anthony. She married Anthony Mete when she was in her early twenties, just a few years after coming to America all by herself at the young age of 17.

She worked 26 years at SYMS where she started as a sales associate and worked her way up to becoming a department manager. Erika was very outgoing and absolutely loved people and hosting family and friends for special occasions and holidays. Her family was most important. She always had the ability to make anyone smile by talking about jewelry, clothes and how she wanted to feed people. Buying gifts for others and crocheting were some of her passions.

Erika was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Erwin, and nephew Paul. She is survived by her sisters, Linda, Gerda, Irma; her sons, Joseph Mete (Barbara) and Anthony Mete (Magdalena); her grandchildren, Erika Mete (Nick), Giovana Mete, Emily Patel Mete (Parth); her nieces, Kathy Walters (Kievan), Linda Conrad and Betty Muraca; nephew Frank Muraca (Laura); grand-niece Karoline (Joseph), great-grand niece Adele and many loving family and friends.

A visitation for Erika will be held Monday, October 14, 2024 from 10am-12pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL., immediately followed by a funeral service at Noon.
