Deb and I were neighbors in Chicago and good friends! I had not heard from her in awhile and  I just found out she passed and I am so very sorry.
I took care of Missy for her many times. I was  lucky enough to meet little Rico. 
 I moved to Minnesota in 2011 we kept in touch thru Facebook and talked a few times. I will miss her, again so very sorry!

I knew Debra when we worked together at Rotary.  Her warmth and wit were so engaging, and we quickly became friends, sharing  work stories and escapades (and there were many!) over lunch and after work.  I will always remember how she put an amusing spin on any bad day at work (usually with a very witty "altered" cartoon), and was always upbeat, supportive, and ready with a hug when needed.  After we both left Rotary, I met her for lunch and learned about Rico and her quiet, happy life on the shores of Lake Michigan.  I feel so fortunate to have known Debra and am glad to know thru these shared memories that she made every experience rich and meaningful, right up to the end. I am so sad that she is gone. My condolences to all her family for the loss of a truly, one of a kind person. 

I just found out today that Debra had passed away. A very, very sad day. She always had interesting stories and opinions to share. Good advice and a caring nature, not only for fellow humans, but also her sweet fur friend Rico. I will miss my dear friend and Sunday breakfast confidant. May you rest in piece dear friend. I was saddened to learn this morning of Debra’s death. While we only shared infrequent email interactions in recent years, I’ve always held a place for her in my heart. I have nothing but fond memories of the times we spent together when we were young, wild, and in love. My condolences go out to her family, who I once thought of as part of mine.

My condolences to all of the Sibert family.  I loved meeting up with Deb and Rico on evening walks.  She was warm, witty and sharp with insight.    I loved watching the planes coming in over the lake with her in the evenings and hearing about her wildlife adventures on her 4:00 am walks.   We shared day-to-day ups and downs and turned them into laughter,  We laughed a lot when we spent time together.   I miss her.

I met Deb when I started walking Rico...i walked him a lot. She and I spent Thanksgiving together...me...her...Rico. It was a wonderful time. I will never forget her

I will miss seeing her in the neighborhood.  Her love for Rico showed every time she walked him.  She’s a piece of the neighborhood that made me happy to live where I do. She will be missed. 

To the Sibert Family

My condolences to you.  I lived on the same floor as Debra for almost twenty years.  We would always stop and chat when we met coming and going.  A friendly, classy lady.

I can only imagine that your grief is intensified during this time when we must remain apart from family and friends.  But I do hope that over time, fond memories will cancel out some of that sorrow.


Deb and I met about 4 years ago walking dogs together. as we continued our friendship and meeting up we begin talking about things we liked. One of the things that Deb liked to do was go to brunch. So we started going out on different Saturdays to brunch together. and it brunch one of her favorite things to have was of course a wonderful bloody Mary. I always ordered my bloody Mary with a side shot of crafted beer. So one Saturday she tried it and that was it from then on all bloody Marys came with a side of beer.
I'm going to miss you Deb and I'm going to miss our brunches and our walks.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved sister Debbie.  It is never easy to lose a loved one, especially in this time of uncertainty where a true celebration of her life has to be on hold.  However if you keep her in your thoughts and in your hearts her memory will live forever. Reading Mikes memory of her babysitting him is so heartwarming.

Whenever I saw Deb she would always ask me “how are you?” and “how are the boys?” .  We would then talk about the goings on in both our lives.  At the end of the conversation she would always tell me “you’re  such a good mom” and “you have such wonderful boys”.  I sure will miss those conversations, and cherish the memories.

Dear Sibert Family,
It breaks my heart to imagine what and how you are experiencing the loss of such a loved family member.  It is very difficult to express in words the sadness I feel for you all from the loss of such a young caring woman...daughter...and sibling.  I am grateful to know Mike as  a co-worker, fishing buddy, and friend.  I have always admired his strength, courage, and devotion. One of my earliest memories was of a night Debbie was babysitting me. I was 4 or 5 and watching Sesame Street.  Debbie asked me if I minded if her boyfriend came over and I agreed. I remember appreciating that she asked me. The boy came over, sat down, and changed the channel. Debbie changed it back to the show I was watching and asked to speak to the boy upstairs. I heard the front door close and Debbie came back down alone. She sat next to me, put a blanket over our legs, and watched tv with me.  I remember what a great big sister she was almost 50 years later. She did many things like that for me, including taking me to Cubs games and buying me something that tasted like beer even though I was 14. Thanks Deb. 

Debbie was extremely smart. She was always fiercely independent and moved out on her own as soon as she was legally able. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it at home but the world called her. She loved Rodgers Park and spent much of her time in her community. Debbie did not drive as an adult. She viewed driving as a scary proposition. This didn’t slow her a bit as Debra  was extremely successful academically and professionally. She held an essential job for the corporate office of Walgreens until her heath prevented her from working. When Deb was in her 40’s she overcame her fear and taught herself to drive. It is a testament to her tenacity that she was able to overcome her fear.  Debbie was a great daughter, sister, and friend. Before she passed Debbie asked me to take care of her most prized possession, Rico. He is now with us in his new forever home, and we are blessed he is here with us. 

Perhaps it’s not typical for a family member to leave a memory. Because of the Coronavirus it will be awhile before we can celebrate Debbie’s life, so I wanted those that read this obit to know what an amazing, loving, beautiful soul we lost.

Last Text sent to my sis on the day she passed...

I hope you get a moment to see this message...I want you to know how much I love you and want you to know how much you've meant to me. Although you may not want to hear it, it's very important for me to get this off my chest. 

You've been such an awesome sister Deb and your warmth, love, intelligence, sense of humor and individuality have all impacted me. I will always remember visiting you at your apartment and sitting in the bleachers to watch the Cubs lose. Your rebellious teens, singing Rhiannon and playing guitar, watching with awe while you played Jeopardy to the point others had to leave the room in embarrassment due to you knowing all the answers as well as partying with you, white rice with soy sauce, snaps, chocolate covered cherries and steaks you would partially enjoy and bring the rest home for Rico.

Always thinking of others, thank you for always thinking of my daughter for birthdays or Christmas and befriending my wife as she raved about your lunches together.

Thank you for your awesomeness Deb!! I love you so much and will never forget you.
