We welcome everyone to join us for a light reception at the church immediately following his service.
We also invite our guest to dress in whatever attire you think Nick Petersen would want you to wear (we are in a church so use some discretion but it is perfectly acceptable to come dressed casually if you choose). We are also requesting that our guests bring their favorite"Nick" pictures and/or memories to share with us as we celebrate his life.
Nick lived a very interesting, full and crazy life beginning in Aurora NE where he was born. The family moved to Berthoud, CO several years later where he would remain for the rest of his childhood years and attend Berthoud Elementary, Turner Middle School, and Berthoud High School. He was an outstanding student athlete who played basketball, wrestling, soccer and football and excelled in math. He attended the Loveland Church of Christ where he and his friends kept their youth group leaders on their toes with their antics. Nick’s faith was strong and he was baptized with one of his best friends, Dave Blanchard, when they were twelve years old. That faith was key to who Nick was for the remainder of his life. He went to Colorado State to major in engineering but was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia during his freshman year. In true Nick fashion, he fought cancer while taunting his doctors, nurses and family (like when he snuck out of the hospital or when he got a fake tattoo). Cancer changed Nick’s path as he transferred to Oklahoma Christian and finally to the University Northern Colorado where he earned a degree in math and decided to become an educator. Nick spent the rest of his life pouring himself into young people in his classroom, on the court/field and through his work with sports ministries and Young Life. He met his wife, Janelle, on EHarmony (be very careful about the people you meet online), in 2008 and they were married on June 2, 2012. Their favorite activities included going to movies, traveling, eating out and watching sporting events. Nick leaves to cherish his memory: His wife, Janelle Petersen. His parents Nels (Susie) Petersen and Kathy Petersen. His grandparents Marvin and Maxyne Blauvelt. His siblings Addi (Jake) Petersen, Carrie Petersen, Cole Petersen, Jen (Alex) Goorjidooz. Nieces and nephews (Caden, Isaiah, Frankie, Gracie, Lucy, Jax, Aiden, and Avery. God Children Makai and Maizie Eng. He leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, players and students. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents Dwayne (Loretta) Petersen, Lloyd and Frieda Resser and an uncle Steve Petersen.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.olingerhampdenmortuary.com for the Petersen family.
