John William (Red) Davis passed away in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by loved ones.
John was born February 3, 1947 in Liberal, Kansas to Robert C. Davis and Bonna Ann (Blankenship/Davis) Gayhart. He moved with his mom to Denver, Colorado in 1947. John was raised in Colorado along with his three siblings. He graduated from Randall High School in 1966. Spending summers and farming in Hooker, Oklahoma with his grandparents, John and Cuba Blankenship was a highlight for him. John attended school at Panhandle State University and Lamar Community College. He returned to Colorado in 1971 and worked for various automobile dealerships before going to work for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in 1977. John retired from RTD in 2017 after 39 years of service.
John was a 34-year member and Past Master of Aurora Masonic Lodge No. 156. Throughout the years he was active in activities with his children, including Boy Scouts and was also a recreational soccer coach. From a young age, John loved all things related to cars and motorcycles. Following his retirement, he continued to enjoy his Harley Davidson and local rides.
John was preceded in death by both parents and his grandparents. He is survived by his brothers, Stephen Davis (Sheila), Robert Copper (Melinda), and Timothy Isbell (Nancy). He is also survived by his children, Ginger Davis (Yasser Abdelkader), Gregory Davis (Elaine) and former wife, Vickie (Zunk) Davis. John leaves behind six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, Colorado. Memories and expressions of sympathy for the family may be left at www.olingerhampdenmortuary.com.
