Gisella Kathe Benjamin-Navarro

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gisella Benjamin Navarro, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who died at the age of 85 on November 16, 2024, in Denver, Colorado.

Born on February 22, 1939, in Schwerin/Waffke, Germany, Gisella was the middle child of four, the daughter of Kathe and August Echelmeyer. She emigrated to the United States in 1960, making her way to San Francisco, California, where she met her first husband. Together, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they welcomed their son, Gideon.

In 1964, Gisella’s passion for fashion led her to Colorado, where her career truly flourished. She was a prominent figure in the fashion world, particularly known for her work with Saks Fifth Avenue at their grand opening in Colorado. Throughout her career, Gisella became renowned for her expertise, her personable nature, and her dedication to her clients. As the manager of the size-inclusive women's department, she exceeded every sales goal set before her, with an unparalleled ability to connect with her customers and help them feel their best. Even after retirement, Gisella remained deeply connected to her clients, continuing to meet with them over coffee or shopping excursions, sharing both advice and friendship.

Known for her sharp wit and unwavering honesty, Gisella had a reputation for being direct—some might call her a "pistol," but those who knew her well understood that she was more like a cannon. She spoke her truth, and in doing so, often changed lives. Her approach to helping others was also distinctive. Gisella never simply gave, she empowered people by teaching them how to stand on their own. Whether in her career or personal life, her goal was always to lift others up, ensuring they could succeed on their own terms.

Gisella is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jacob Navarro, her brother Paul Echelmeyer, and her sister-in-law Krista Echelmeyer, who passed just two months prior. She is survived by her son, Gideon (Kirstin Manvel), her grandchildren, Nicholas Benjamin and Benjamin Vice, Brandon McLeod and her great-grandchildren, Alannah Benjamin and Lilah Benjamin. She is also survived by her brothers, Ulrich and Jochiem (Gabriella), as well as her cherished dog, Lilah.

Gisella was a woman of strength, resilience, and grace, who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her legacy will live on in the many people she helped and inspired throughout her remarkable life.

A celebration of Gisella's life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared when arrangements are finalized.
