Lena:

We didn't know each other well. But I just wanted to thank you for being kind to me during a really hard year in high school. 

You checked up on me during my most stressful class to make sure I was functioning. When we stretched during gym, you helped make it fun by counting in French, Vietnamese, Spanish. You would compare history notes with me so that we could see if we'd been writing down the same things. Most of all, when you talked to me, it kept my mind off of difficult things. 

We went our separate ways, but I just want you to know that you mattered. Thank you for all you did.

Lena was an absolutely lovely person to be in class with. At times it can be difficult to make connections in college courses, but Lena was always happy to chat with her peers, give them encouragement, and spread joy. She extended her kindness and bright spirit to me in class, and I am extremely thankful for that. Truly, one of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. I know she brightened many people’s lives, and I give my condolences to her family and friends. 

I remember when Lena and I first met was during school when there was a lockdown for a bear on campus. They asked to sit at my cafeteria table when I was alone and eventually the school let us out. We decided to go together and went to the 7/11 nearby. Lena ended up paying for my stuff. She also asked for my snap, saw my last name, and we connected from being from the same culture in a less diverse school. After that we went out together for lunch and studying almost everyday. And every time we would both fight each other to pay for our things. I relied on Lena so much when I started out as a high schooler. I think she is the reason why I was able to make it through in the first place. 

When I invited her to my birthday, we found out we actually lived down the street from each other. A bigger coincidence, we lived near each other in our childhood before we even moved homes to that one. Two times we just so happened to live so close. During the summer, we would bike together on the trails a lot. Sometimes I would bike over and we just hang out. We would do each others makeup for fun and go to the mall. Whenever I was over, both her and her mom would stuff me with food. When it got late, her mom would refuse to let me bike home and drive me back despite being down the street. There was a time where I was not okay and she helped me through it all. She was the one that helped me realized I was assaulted when I didn’t know myself.

College came and we spent less time together. But that doesn’t mean we drifted at all because we should still try to find time even if it is less. I know this because when we saw each other for the first time in a while, it was as if nothing happened, we were still close friends. We both finally could drive and we just tried different places together. When I needed to talk, she was there too for me and of course I tried listening to her when she needed it too. I saw her as a mother figure for how much she helped me and how mature she was.

I remember the first time I met Lena. I was sitting in the back of the sorority classroom by myself because all the closer spots were filled up. Lena was my saving grace. She came in and sat right next to me— not even a seat away. She was social. She asked me where I got my pink shirt from and I told her I got it from Target. From day one, I knew she was my friend. I had so many intentions to get closer to her and although our time was short, I am beyond grateful to have lived in the presence of the beautiful Dalena Le. She made me kinder, more social, and a better person in our short time together. Lena, thank you for being so inclusive. I hope your last bright days were as comfortable and radiating at you are. I love you so much.

Hello to family and friends of Lena,

The first time I met Lena last semester in December, it was at one of the Asian organization events on campus. Kathy had asked her if she could drive me to Auraria West station because it was dark out, and she didn’t want me to walk out there all by myself. Lena and Colleen made sure that I made it home safe commuting on the RTD at night and both gave me their contact info. I remember that they had both waited in her car till I had gotten on the train and made sure I got on safely.

Whenever I attended a VSA meeting, she was always the first one to greet me and give me a hug. The last VSA meeting I went to, she made sure to sit next to me and talk with me while I was sitting alone waiting for my other friends. We would catch up and talk about our semester, and other random fun things. I’m still in disbelief that she isn’t here with us all anymore.

I will miss her deeply, her warmth, generosity, and kindness will never be forgotten by anyone who has known her 💛. Rest in peace, sweet Lena.

I write this as a sorority sister to Lena. We met just a few weeks ago, but it was so easy to feel comfortable in her presence. Her demeanor was genuine and full of so much care, and she further proved that by carrying a whole Walgreens in her bag for whenever anyone felt sick. We’d call her the “mom friend”.  She finished my sentences when I couldn’t remember what words to use, gave me Claritin when I couldn’t stop sneezing, and always asked me about my weekend. She’s a true sweetheart and I will always remember our interactions. I’m so sorry for your lost, I’m sending so much love and strength. 

I write this as a former classmate of Lena, although I didn't talk to Lena much the interactions that I had with her were enough to leave a lasting impression. I remember the first time that I saw Lena give a presentation, and she knocked it out of the park. It wasn't only her ability to do fantastic for herself, but Lena gave people the confidence that they too could do anything successfully. I will always remember the kindness and empathy that Lena was full of. Lastly, I would like to give my condolences to the friends and family of Lena. 

Hi Lena's family, I have no words and I am sending my greatest condolence. I am Lena's classmate in public speaking class. We did not talk much but we did exchange a few conversation here and there. She is the sweetest person, while I was nervous about my presentation she comforted me. She is an amazing individual, and I am so glad I got to know her even for a little. She is always cheerful and always smiling. She is also an amazing public speaker, her energy is calm and comforting. I am so sorry for your lost, but I do hope that this letter will being some comfort like how comforting Lena have been to everyone around her. 

Lena was always so full of love. I remember how she would always give out compliments and give the warmest hugs to those around her. She's truly gone too soon and will be deeply missed. My condolences to her loved ones.
