John served the community as a first responder EMT Firefighter and Fire Captain of the Denison Fire Department for over 34 years.
He served 4 years in the Navy before he returned to Denison to marry the love of his life, Marlene Nunley. After 47 years of marriage she preceded him in death. He also owned Barnhill Electrical Service for many years.
He was the son of JT Barnhill and Ann Powers Barnhill and brother of Beverly Ann Bell and Mary Jane Curtis.
He was an elder in the Lake Texoma congregation of Jehovah Witnesses where he spent many hours of service in the ministry and Bible teaching activity in this area.
John is survived by his children Terri Daugherty and husband Paul of Paradise, TX, Jennifer Barnhill of Dallas metroplex area, and Allison Barnhill of San Francisco, CA.
He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He also had many nieces and nephews.
John took special care of his sister, Mary Curtis, and he was especially fond of his nephew, Joe Mitchell Torres.
He was known by his friends as JB. John never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. He was loved by all of his many friends and his family and will be greatly missed. What a hole is left in our hearts.
Memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2401 S. College Blvd. at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 11th; Ted Hoeller will officiate.
Family will be at 308 W. Murry St. after the memorial service.
There will be a private family memorial at Spanish Fort, TX at a later date.
