Savina "Sandy" Powell

Savina (Sandy) Powell went home to be with the Lord September 28, 2022. The youngest of 6, she was born January 1, 1926 in Bakersfield, CA to Benjamin and Linda Sandrini, who had come to the United States from Italy by passenger ship arriving on Ellis Island in the early 1900’s. They were raised on a dairy farm in Pumpkin Center and attended Panama Elementary School, then Kern County Union High School (now Bakersfield High School). After graduating she worked in Pumpkin Center at the drug store and Center Market. In 1954, she married Donald Powell and moved to McFarland where she helped Donald in his crop dusting business and raised their two daughters.

Savina was active in her community teaching Catechism at church, cooking dinners for their Bingo night, and teaching cooking in the local 4-H club. She volunteered many years at the Delano Regional Medical Center and was a member of the McFarland Women’s Club, cooking many spaghetti dinners for their scholarship program.

She loved spending time at her cabin in the mountains with family and friends, plus the many road trips she and Donald took traveling all over the United States. Savina was a faithful supporter of her three grandsons, attending their many sporting events and she also loved spending time with her three great granddaughters. We cherish the memories of her homemade orange and cinnamon rolls we enjoyed every Christmas morning. She loved playing cards and rummikub with family and friends. Savina was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nonni who was always there for her family, and we will miss her dearly.

Savina loved the Lord and was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and we look forward to being together again with her for eternity in Heaven.

Savina is survived by her daughter Karen and her husband Craig of Wasco, daughter Linda of Bakersfield, grandson John (Janelle) great granddaughters Hannah, Norah and Ella, and grandsons Paul, and Ben (Caroline).

Serving as pallbearers are Craig Fulwyler, John Fulwyler, Paul Fulwyler, Ben Fulwyler, Tom Sandrini and Jim Sandrini.

A celebration of life for Savina will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at North Kern District Cemetery, 627 Austin St., Delano, CA 93215. Following the celebration of life will be a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Delano, 707 Browning Road, Delano, CA 93215.
