Marcus David Poore Sr

Daddy was born to Lillie Myrtle Shortnacy and John Jasper Poore on September 22, 1929 in Oxford, Alabama. He enjoyed hunting, being in the country and loved roaming the hills along with his brothers. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Surgical Assistant with the 52nd Medical Battalion out of Ft. Benning, GA, from July 13, 1948 to January 28, 1950. With this unit, he served alongside his fellow soldiers in Germany. Upon his return from Germany, he sought out a young woman he had met prior to his deployment. Her family had moved, so after many inquiries, he located her and they began a lasting relationship. During this time, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. He joined the 3810 Medical Group, Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. He served from June 15, 1951 to January 10, 1952. During this time he married his lovely lady, Julia Ann Turner on July 3, 1951 and together they raised four children.

Daddy loved and embraced life. He loved his family and was devoted to them. He was always encouraging and had an ear available any time. He loved the Lord and was quick to share him. He could talk to you about the Bible for hours and the majority of the time, if you had a question, he could usually answer it. As children, each night before bed, we would gather together and have a prayer. Daddy taught us how to pray and would call each child by name as he prayed for us. Daddy along with our mother taught us respect for ourselves and for others. They lived their lives as an example for us and we learned from that example. An unexpected event took the life of our mother on August 26, 2003, and our daddy’s life was changed forever. Many lonely days followed………

A new chapter of life began for daddy when he met Ms. Quida Wingfield. They met in October of 2010, and a sweet relationship began. They enjoyed singing, dancing, playing cards, watching football and sharing dinner together. She brought back his smile, laughter and the twinkle to his eye. He enjoyed his time with her and friends at First Baptist Church, Midwest City, where he was a member. She brought him OUT OF THE BOX! She introduced him to Chinese food, Italian food and even got him to eat a loaded baked potato. They enjoyed going to the movies and concerts. She was his sunshine and his love. She would go or walks with him and loved to be his fishing buddy. Daddy had a special gift for writing poems and songs. He often wrote poems to her.

On October 30, 2015, Daddy joined his Heavenly Father and family after sustaining a fall. He will be forever missed and loved in our hearts. Our lives will never be the same without him.

He leaves to treasure his memory, Marcus David Jr. (Charlene) of Oklahoma City, Angela Ellison (Jim) of Norman, Tammy Markita Day (David) of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Mandi Beaver (Tim) of Midwest City, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild, and his BFF Ms. Quida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, his mother Lillie Myrtle, his father John Jasper, 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Our lives have been blessed by this wonderful man and we WILL be together again.
