Our dear father, Juan D. Hernandez, has returned to his creator and the arms of his beloved Rose Marie on Monday, February 20th, 2023. Juan entered this life on June 24, 1938 and following a childhood growing up in New York City he attended Cardinal Hayes Catholic High School. With a sense of adventure he enlisted in the United States Air Force in April, 1956 and it was while stationed near Bath, Maine that he met the love of his life Rose Marie. They married on the 29th of June 1959. As they traveled the world they were fortunate to have three wonderful children, Linda, Susan and John.
As a MSgt in the USAF he and his family spent time in Alaska, Hawaii, Okinawa and Sembach, Germany ultimately settling in Oklahoma City. Juan was active duty in the 3rd mob on Tinker AFB. He did finally retire in 1986 after 21yrs of service. During his career he received numerous commendations and several medals. Following his military retirement he attended the University of Central Oklahoma receiving a BS in Nursing. He was proud to use his degree in the service of his fellow Veterans at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He spent a 27 year career there retiring to spend time with his sweetheart Rose Marie.
Together they raised 3 children sending them all to college where they were successful in establishing careers and becoming independent productive citizens of the world. They were blessed with 4 lovely grandchildren, Alexandra, Matthew, Hailey and John Daniel. Retirement was filled with joyful times with family and friends. He will always be in our hearts as a beloved father, honorable Veteran and caretaker to the many Veterans who came to the VA for care and comfort. Now he has gone to heaven to be united with his one true love. We will miss him but it is a great comfort to know he is dancing with Rose until we see him again.
