Pa, your guiding hand will always be on our shoulders forever.

I have so many great memories of Pa that it's hard to pick just one, but the one that I look back most fondly on is the time he spent watching the tv show Inspector Gadget with me as a kid.  Even if I wasn't with him, he would still watch it or give me a call when it was over just to have something special to talk about with me that day.  Whether it was watching the tv show with me, hanging out in his shop or just going over there to visit - he would always go out of his way to ensure I knew how much he loved his family and how proud he was of me.

I miss you and love you, Pa.

Rest easy, Chief. Fair winds and following seas.

Being the “baby” of the family, I’m often lovingly reminded by my siblings that I was spoiled to no end.  Maybe so, but raising me up, my dad always instilled a strong sense  of caring, respect, and humility for others, and love in my heart for life itself.  Somewhere in my little girl years I developed a special love for music that follows me to this day, and Dad always provided whatever I needed to ensure participation in my school activities.  He drove my first car to the high school and surprised me during class change one day and I’ll never forget the look on his face as he shouted out my name from behind the wheel of the car  in the parking lot amongst my classmates, grinning from ear to ear!  That’s just one tiny example of how Dad made life fun.  Dad was an awesome, loving grandfather to Sam and all of his grandkids.  I can’t find the words to express how much he loved them.  Simply put, Dad, you were the best.  I love you.  Your baby.

I don't remember ever calling Jerry Stewart anything but Dad. Being his youngest daughter's best friend starting in high school, the whole family welcomed me on outings, fun times, and the best summer trip ever to Biloxi MS, after graduating high school. Jerry treated me like a member of his family every single time I was with them. He would tease me about wanting to pay for my own meal, etc , and he would NOT hear of that!!  He was such a good, honorable, and FUNNY man. Love you, Dad Stewart,  and will cherish my memories!

I admit it.  I was a daddy's girl.  I was happy to sit in his lap as a girl and happy to be holding his hand when he passed.  We shared so many funny and endearing moments to the very end.  Along the way, he taught me how a girl should be treated (like a princess), but also how to be strong, respect others, make good decisions and make sure to enjoy life, not just let it pass you by.  He set the bar very high for the future standard of men in my life.  Because of my dad, I no longer look at a picture and see a photo -- I see a whole story.  I will always treasure those memories with him, I will always love him, and I already miss him.

My greatest memories of my Dad all revolve around the navy.  From the time I was old enough to understand what it meant to express what you wanted to be in life, I knew I wanted to be a sailor like my Dad.  To help me along he started a Sea Cadet program in Owensboro, KY, which put me into the navy uniform at 14.  He would let me hang out with him at the various reserve centers he was stationed and help me understand what it was to be in the navy.  He encouraged me along the way to pursue navy ROTC and gain my commission, which I did in 1981.  One of the proudest moments in my life was to have Dad administer the oath at my commissioning.  There is a tradition in the navy for a newly commissioned officer to give a silver dollar to the first enlisted person to render you a salute.  I was so proud to give my silver dollar to my father.

Dad, your friends and family loved and respected you and will miss you greatly.  We have a traditional saying in the navy for departing shipmates to wish them safe travels.  So Dad, I wish you fair wind and following seas on your journey.  I will miss you more than I can possibly express.  May you rest in peace.

Jerry Stewart was an amazing, kind, loving, caring and compassionate man.  From the first day I was introduced to him and eventually becoming his daughter-in-law he showed me nothing but love, kindness and respect.   I am blessed beyond words to have had him as my father-in-law.  I love him with all my heart and soul and will cherish every memory with him FOREVER!
