Roger Emil Allard, 99, died on December 20, 2019 three weeks short of 100 years young at Alternative Care A.L.F. in Coral Springs, FL. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on January 11, 1920, son of Emil Allard and Eva Blanchard Allard.
Roger graduated from Catholic University in Washington, DC with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1941. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army, as a topographer with the 9th Radar Calibration Detachment. Later in the South Pacific, he served on the islands of Enewetok, Kwajelein, and Iwo Jima.
After the war, he joined Locraft & Sons Architects and later started his own firm, Allard & Euhtch in Washington, DC. Roger designed several of the buildings on the Catholic University Campus, academic, dormitory and buildings for the arts.
Roger spent 30 years working for the St Vincent de Paul Society while in the DC-MD area and another 30 years of service after coming to South Florida. With the support of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, FL, Roger was able to assist all in Deerfield Beach who were in need.
Roger was a faithful parishioner of St. Ambrose Church ever since his arrival in 1984. He was a man loved by all and with a loving heart that shared the love of Jesus Christ with those he met. He followed the path Jesus set for him; he led by example.
Roger became part of the Knights of Columbus while in the DC area and continued to be active over the next 30 years. He also was involved with the Organization of American States (OAS) from 1975 to 1983.
Roger was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Mary Frances Allard, who passed away in 1981 and by his parents, brothers, and sister. His younger brother Robert Richard Allard, WWII veteran, who passed away in 2018 was serving in the North Atlantic while Roger was in the South Pacific.
Roger is remembered by his second wife, Mary Theresa Allard and his two adult children, John Timothy Allard and Catherine Anne (Allard) Fong.
A Funeral Mass of a life well lived will be celebrated on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 9:30am in the chapel of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 380 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach, FL 33441 with burial to follow at City of Deerfield Beach Memorial Cemetery, NE Eller St and NE 6th Ave.
