Maxine V. Owens

Maxine V. Owens, 87, of West Babylon, passed away on March 29, 2021. She was the first African American female teacher of the East Islip School District. She taught third grade until her retirement in 1995. Maxine will always be remembered as a funny sassy woman who never hesitated to help someone in need. She loved working at Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member since 1977. Maxine took pride in her garden and loved to do puzzles.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Tommie Lee Owens, Sr. Survived by her beloved children Tommy Owens, Jr. and Penelope Owens. Cherished sister to Peggy Woods, Elma Woods, Thelma McCall, Cynthia Woods and Frederick Douglas Pearsall. Also predeceased by her siblings Louise Woods, Emma Woods, James Woods, Mary Lou Woods and Pearlene Marshall. She will also be missed by her grand dog Cosmo.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 17 S 20th St, Wyandanch, NY 11798. Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY.
