Robert Straub passed away on the 25th day of February 2019. Services will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Decatur, Alabama at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be at St John’s Episcopal Church from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will be at Decatur City Cemetery.
Mr. Straub was born on January 27, 1922, in Wooster, Ohio, to Theodore Straub, Jr. and Lula Haley Straub. He attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and Wooster College. He graduated in 1949 from the University of Alabama School of Law. After a few years as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama, he entered the practice of law in Decatur, Alabama, with the law firm of Russell & Straub, later Russell, Straub, & Kyle. He served one term as Bar Commissioner for the Eighth Judicial Circuit and served 27 years as Municipal Judge for the City of Decatur. Straub was veteran of World War II and a flying instructor for the old Army Air Corps, later the U.S. Air Force. He continued his military service in the Alabama Air National Guard until retiring in 1971 as a Lt. Colonel. Straub was a long time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where he served at various times as Vestryman, Sr. Warden, Church School Superintendent, Church School Teacher, Lay Eucharistic Minister, and Lector.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ford Tillery Straub, and by his second wife, Judy Whisenant Straub. He is survived by his sons Robert “Bobby” A. Straub and wife Dorothy, of Courtland, Alabama; Theodore “Ted” Straub and wife, Aurea, of Franklin, Tennessee; two step sons, James Kirkham and wife, Jennifer, of Washington, D.C., and Franklin W. Kirkham and wife, Carla, of Danville; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
