Rhonda Smith Wagner, 60, of Decatur, traded her mortal racquet for a golden one on December 7, 2017. She was born on November 23, 1957 in Anniston, AL to parents, Frank and Barbara Smith. Rhonda graduated from Cullman High School. She was the true definition of selflessness not only to her family, but to everyone she met. She never met a stranger. Rhonda was accomplished in a myriad of vocations until she met the love of her life, John Wagner MD. Rhonda was an avid Alabama football fan, which lead to her passion for collecting elephants. In 2001, Rhonda met the other love her life, tennis in which she quickly advanced winning many state and local championships. People wanted to play with her, but never against her. Rhonda will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was an incredibly strong woman who had an indelible love for life and her family.
Rhonda is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harvey and Doris Moncrief, and paternal grandparents, Drury and Iris Smith.
Rhonda leaves to cherish her memories, parents, Frank and Barbara Smith; sister, Debi Swaney (Don); brother, Frankie Smith (Gina); husband, John H. Wagner MD; children, Kristi Wagner, Scott Wagg (Kristen), Jade Wagner Chappell (Chris), Jordyn Wagner, Jevonne Whidbee, and Jessica Cowan; grandchildren, Alli, Riley, Reagan, Paisley, India, and Asia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Scott Wagg, Frankie Smith, Chris Chappell, Don Swaney, William Wilbanks, Wesley Swoopes, and Troy Gholston.
The family of Rhonda Wagner would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice of Madison, Lisa Blevins RN, her doctors; Dr. Shah, Dr. McCormick, Dr. Moss and their staff, USA Healthcare, and a multitude of tennis friends and other associates who endeavored to assist in this recent journey.
Recognition of her amazing life will be on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at 3:00 pm at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with a visitation beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Cancer.
