Opal Marie West

Opal was born on September 16th, 1932 in Lawrence County, Alabama. She would go on to graduate a cheerleader and Valedictorian of her senior class at Speake High School in 1949. Almost immediately she would go to work for the Bell Telephone Company and retire approximately 36 years later. On December 23rd, 1950, Opal and Wendell, eloped in Iuka, Mississippi. They would share a life for 65 years filled with a love for family, traveling, fishing, and hunting. A passion for everything outdoors from Florida to Alaska, they would share with their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Berry L. Hill and Leler Laurene Hill; brother Jimmy Doyle Hill; sister Wilma “Inez” Kirby; husband James “Wendell” West Sr.

Opal is survived by brothers Steve Hill, Dewayne Hill; daughter Arlene “Mickey” Marie West(Rick) Quarles; son James Wendell West Jr(Debbie Rea); grandchildren, Jennifer Quarles, Brandon West(Amber Purcell), Alison West(John) Crane, and Josh Quarles; 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Brandon West, Colton West, Brycen Templeton, John Crane, Steve Hill, and Dewayne Hill.
