Joan is survived by her sister, Ruth Ash, her children, Sandy Hill, Debbie Pitts, Scott Pitts (Diane), her grandchildren, Cathy Jo Webb (Austin), Joni Morgan, Braxton Pitts (Malory), Sierra Bauer, Bailey Bauer, Dakota Bauer and Ashlee Bauer, and by her great grandchildren, Eli Webb, Reed Webb, Kal Daedalus, Paige Morgan and Jon McCarley.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Dr. Judson P. Pitts, her parents, Albert and Bessie Stroh, her brothers Harold Stroh and Jerry Stroh and her sister, Joyce Pagliei.
Joan was born in North Dakota and loved to tell stories about her childhood on her family farm. Her favorite stories were about her horse that she used to ride down to the mailbox. She also enjoyed taking family and friends “sledding” while her horse pulled them through the North Dakota snow. After moving to Decatur, Joan worked as a bookkeeper for many years at several different places including Grants Department Store, Goodyear Tire Store and for her husband’s Chiropractic Business. She not only loved raising her children but she loved to give back to the community that her and Judson enjoyed living in. She would volunteer to help with Meals on Wheels and loved to work outside. She also worked with her women’s group at church in various ways.
Joan was an extremely hard worker but she always knew how to have fun. One of her favorite ways to have fun was at the “One Armed Bandits”. She loved traveling to Tunica with friends and family to “show you how it was done”. She also enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoy life. The biggest smile would come across her face every time she saw them. Everyone who met her always talked about her kind, sweet smile and how much she loved her family and others. Her kind, sweet smile and her gracious heart will be treasured and deeply missed.
Per her request, there will be graveside services only at Roselawn Cemetery on April 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
Pallbearers will be Scott Pitts, Braxton Pitts, Eli Webb, Reed Webb, Dakota Bauer and Josh Loney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or Hospice of the Valley.
