Violet Smith

Violet Smith, 91, of Centerville and Miamisburg, OH went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 30, 2022. Preceded in death by husband Earl Smith and her parents Charles and Sureau Fry, and brothers Kenneth and Ray, all of Pennsylvania.

Survived by daughters Michele (Bill) Berry, Debbie (Tony) Vermillion and Lorie (Vince) Blaeser. Beloved grandchildren—Emily Berry, Erin (Cody) Taylor, Ross Vermillion, Davis (Claire) Vermillion, Alena Vermillion, Julia (Jake) Buehler, Joel Blaeser, Audrey (fiance Jonathan Intrater )Blaeser; great grandchildren Liam Taylor and Tucker Vermillion. Aunt to Candy, Jim, Bob, Patti, Tana and all of their families. Dear sister in law to Luther, Marian and Lois.

Vi grew up in New Freedom, PA and lived a happy, joy filled life. She was the first majorette for New Freedom High School. She attended beautician school and worked in that field for a few years before taking a secretarial job at Caterpillar Tractor Co. There she met the love of her life, Earl, and they married in 1955. First moving to Monterey, CA, for Earl’s FBI career, they settled down in Ohio, where they raised their 3 daughters.

Vi always made sure the Smith home was full of fun, laughter and memorable moments. She spent her time sewing her girls’ clothes, leading Scout troops, and supporting school/church activities. Vi was a teller at Winter’s Bank and a sales associate at Elder Beerman. She was a member of Oak Creek United Church of Christ and Christ United Methodist for many years, where she sang in both choirs. Later activities included the Ladies Golf League at Miamisburg Mound, playing piano and taking care of precious grandchildren while having fun with her many good friends.

You are Our Sunshine, mom, and we will miss you more than words can say.

Thank you to the amazing and caring staff at Brookdale Kettering and Caretender’s Hospice for their love and support they gave our mom. In lieu of flowers, donations in Violet’s name can be made to your local Hospice or a charity of your choice.

A visitation for Violet will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home - Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45429. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM, 5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45429. A burial will occur at David's Cemetery.
