Haney, Vernon “Vern” L., age 83 of Dayton passed away on Feb. 24, 2023. Vern was born in Dayton to the late George and Lucille Haney. He is also preceded in death by his brothers George (Gale) Haney and David Haney, and son Fred McDuff. He is survived by his wife Joyce Haney, daughter and son-in-law Vicky and Jack Cummings, grandchildren Brandi Davis and Gabrielle “Gabby” McDuff, great-grandchild Rianna Lee, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vern worked as a chrome-plater at James Rivers Printing Company in Dayton for 25 years, and simultaneously in many aspects of the Real Estate business, including as a mortgage broker, loan originator, licensed realtor, and owner of Vern Haney and Associates. He volunteered many hours at Southview Hospital Rehab Center, and was a Mason, belonging to the Far Hills Lodge 782.
Vern never met a stranger, his sense of humor and love of people radiated wherever he went. He was an excellent swimmer and spent time as a lifeguard in his early years. He also made sure to teach his daughter to swim at an early age.
He and his wife, Joyce, loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, where they once climbed Mt. Diamond Head together.
Vern will be missed deeply by all who knew him and will always be remembered for his love of people, love of adventure, and making people laugh.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11am, Friday, March 3, 2023 at Fairhaven Church, 637 E Whipp Rd., Centerville. Friends may visit at the church from 10-11am the day of services.
