GOLDEN, Roderick “Diego” Earl II, 29, of Xenia entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Roderick was known lovingly as Rod and Roddy by his family and Diego by his friends. Rod was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 4, 1993 to Roderick Earl Golden of Columbus, Ohio and Theresa Marie (Lewis) Golden of Xenia, Ohio.
Rod lived every moment of life to its fullest without inhibitions and encouraged everyone around him to see the beauty and splendor life offered. In 2013, Rod completed his high school education at the Greene County Career Center Adult Education Program. After completing his high school education, Rod focused on his love of entertainment and bringing laughter and joy to all who knew him. As an up-and-coming comedian, Rod performed at comedy clubs in Ohio and Los Angeles, California. Rod was an immensely creative and entrepreneurial spirit: he owned and operated Poof Delivery Service; he designed his own clothing line; he wrote poetry; he worked as an artist—specializing in one-of-a-kind tattoo designs; he served as an amateur chef—perfecting his own signature jerk seasoning and manning the grill at family functions; he enjoyed creating music—both singing and rapping his own creations; and he loved to travel with particular fondness for the beauty of Southern California’s beaches and coastlines. ROD LOVED LIFE AND LIVED WITHOUT PRETENSE.
Rod was quite literally larger than life—towering over most of us with his 6’6 frame. Rod was a gentle giant, who was fiercely loyal to those he loved. He will always be remembered for his unique, hilarious sense of humor; his unprecedented perspectives on life; his compassion and willingness to help others; and his beautiful heart and soul. A true optimist, Rod desired all whom he loved to see past the negativity in the world, know their own self-worth, and to focus on the positive. As he wrote just recently to his younger sister, Marvis-Marie: “When it rains, think of the rainbows and flowers that will grow.”
Rod leaves to cherish his memory his parents, and his much-beloved children—daughter, Millyanah Golden, and son, Lazariah Golden. Also surviving are his siblings—his sisters Christina L. Ademola (Bayonle) of Westwood, Massachusetts, Marvis-Marie Grace Golden of Xenia, Ohio, and Brooklynn Golden of Rock, Hill, South Carolina; his brothers Daviye S. Golden of Columbus, Ohio and Bryce O. Golden (Diane) of Sweet Home, Oregon; his paternal grandfather Norwood Earl Golden of Xenia, Ohio; his maternal grandmother Marvis Day Lewis of Xenia, Ohio; his special cousins Jayson Gwinn, Jr., Naomi Thomas, Courtland Lewis, Luther “Franco” McArn, and Morgan McArn; his dozens of aunts and uncles and cousins; his countless friends; and his beloved dog, Shaka. Rod’s paternal great-grandmother Loree U. Meals, paternal grandmother Grace Evelyn Golden, and maternal grandfather Dr. Joseph D. Lewis, III preceded him in death.
Rod led a life that is to be celebrated, and, while his family has suffered an immeasurable loss, they are finding solace reflecting upon how blessed they were to have Rod in their lives. There will be a “Celebration of Life” Party on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton – Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio, https://www.google.com/maps/search/3970+Dayton+%E2%80%93+Xenia+Road,+Beavercreek?entry=gmail&source=g). In lieu of flowers, Rod’s family requests contributions in memory of Rod be made to his children’s college funds—details to come.
