RAIN, Robert J., age 81 of Dayton, Ohio was taken by the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Bob graduated from New Knoxville High School in 1951, where he played basketball and went on to the state tournament in 1947. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati, on a full basketball scholarship and obtained his Master’s Degree from UC. Bob was a member of the ROTC and served in the US Army. He taught and coached basketball for 10 years at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob retired from General Motors after leaving teaching. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, and was a world traveler. Bob was a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and head usher. He was a member of Sigma Sigma, the Milton Club, the New Knoxville Historical Society, American Legion Post of Kettering and the T.O.M. Club. Bob was born in New Knoxville, Ohio on November 5, 1931 to Julius and Frances Rain. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Charles Willman and Thomas Puroff. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia; sons, Bruce Rain and Curtis Rain; daughter, Karen (Ken) Castonguay; grandchildren, Stephanie and Adam; sister, Marian Wellman; aunt and uncle, Sophie & Richard Lehman; aunts, Norma Mitsoff and Martha Settlage; nieces, Kendra Opperman and Keri Koepke; a nephew, Kent Wellman; and cousins, Magdalene Weese and Sophia Ancheva of Gevgelia, Macedonia; and many special and loving friends and devoted cousins. Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Avenue, Kettering, Ohio 45429 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Fairmont Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
