John Paul Drayer

John P. Drayer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2022 at St. Leonard Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family. John was a lifelong lover of tennis and golf, enjoying regular tee times at Yankee Trace, Holly Hills, and other area golf courses, and proudly displaying the golf balls from multiple holes-in-one. He was known as a lover of all things “Bill’s Donuts” and the famous “Porter’s Hamburger Wagon,” and spent many a memorable evening with children and grandchildren at the local Dairy Queen. His infectious giggle and silly antics will be missed by family and friends from across the country and his spirit will live forever on the waters of Lake Wawasee, Indiana. He was a graduate of Miamisburg High School and attended Xavier University and The Ohio State University, where he played tennis against and beat the famous Arthur Ashe. He was a former employee of WLWD television (now WDTN) and McCall’s Printing Company, before joining the family business at Deniston Oldsmobile, where he was head of sales. He was a member of Church of the Incarnation, Centerville. In retirement, he spent hours at Yankee Trace, serving as a starter and ranger in exchange for free golf. He was among the first employees there. John celebrated 61 years of marriage in May to Ann (DeCapua), with whom he embraced building a faith-filled home and family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Jennifer McDonald (Scott), Janine Grindstaff (Michael), and Jonell Voskuhl (David), and sons John McGee (Debbie), and Joseph (Emily), fourteen grandchildren who were the light of his days, one beautiful great-grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Friday, July 1, 10:30 am at Church of the Incarnation, Centerville, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment will be at Centerville-Washington Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Leonard Benevolent Society, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville, Ohio, or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio.
