Jim was a member of Church of the Cross United Methodist (Kettering) and originally a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church (Dayton).
He was a graduate of Wilbur Wright High School (Dayton) and was a former employee of Allied Supply Co. and Domescik & Associates, Inc.
Jim served for a combined 14 years as a Trustee of Mad River Township and was a Council Member for the City of Riverside. He served for many years on the Administrative Council for Trinity United Methodist Church as a Trustee/Treasurer. He was involved with the Stebbins High School Boosters and held the office of President. Jim was also an active member of the Mad River Lions Club, and was an organizer for the Riverside Founder’s Day Parade.
Having been a vocalist since the age of five, he was very involved with area choirs and various singing opportunities such as weddings and funerals. He was a choir member in every church he attended, the lead tenor soloist in the Dayton area Seven Last Words of Christ cantata every Easter season for many years, the Miami Valley Chorale and Dayton Philharmonic Choir. Ann and the girls enjoyed singing as well in choirs, as a family and on road trips in the car.
For fun, Jim spent many summer days at Eastview Recreation Center swimming and relaxing with family and friends. He was a softball player in various leagues, the most years on Mike Logan’s Sales & Service (Xenia) team. He had a train set he enjoyed building, shooting pool and board games. Because of his involvement in these activities and interests he developed many lasting friendships which he cherished.
He was an avid sports fan like all of his family. He followed the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State University, Duke University basketball and the Dayton Dragons. He passed his love of sports to his daughters and taught them how to shoot hoops and throw a baseball.
He enjoyed traveling which was good, because when he first started courting Ann it took him nine hours to drive to her hometown in Clarksburg, WV. He enjoyed going to the farm where he was spoiled with meals of home grown foods, walks in the country air, and many hours of family time on the front porch. Family reunions were the highlight of every Fourth of July weekend in West Virginia.
Jim was a lover of life, his family, and a friend to most everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
The family is planning a memorial service for a future date at Church of the Cross United Methodist. His final resting place will be at Willow View Cemetery at Neff and Wagner Ford Roads in Dayton, Ohio.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations are made to Church of the Cross United Methodist, 3121 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, Ohio 45429, and Mad River Lions Club, PO Box 31682, Dayton, Ohio 45437.
