FLANNERY, James Cecil, 65, left this earth to be present with his Savior on Thursday, January 19, 2012. Cecil was born October 16, 1946 in Oldtown, KY. He spent his life in Dayton, OH. He is a graduate of Stivers High School, Class of 1964; he served briefly in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany; worked at GM for over 35 years; he was a volunteer at the Hospice of Dayton for several years; and most recently worked as the secretary at the church where he was a longtime member and deacon, Emmanuel Baptist in Dayton. He was the picture of a godly man and never knew a stranger. His friendliness, kindness, sense of humor and love for the Lord were noticed by anyone who ever came in contact with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reva Anadean (Felty) & John W. Flannery; & a brother, Kenneth Flannery. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40+ years, Donna (Barhorst) Flannery; five children & their families: Cheryl & Tom Watkins, Jim & Misty Flannery, Jon & Leslee Flannery, Carrie & Gerard Negretti & Jessica & Robert Alvarez; sister, Helen & Ron Hemelgarn; brother, David & Marcia Flannery; sisters-in-law, Betty & Al Wagner & Barbara Flannery; stepmother, Virgie Flannery. He was a wonderful Pappaw to Abigail & Grace; Tyler, Trent & Kyle; Quinn; Nick, Sarah & Isaiah; & Jimmy, Elena & Isabela. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & numerous friends. Words cannot fully express the love and devotion so many felt for this godly man, the numerous lives he touched, or the assurance we have knowing he is in heaven with his Father. Special thanks to Miami Valley Hospital, Oak Creek Terrace, Kettering Fire Department and Miami Valley South emergency room staff for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1501 E. Third St., Dayton with Rev. Richard Springer officiating. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. Contributions may be made to The Hospice of Dayton.
