Jack Delmar Reay, 94, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018, in Westfield, Indiana where he been a resident since January 2018. Jack had been in hospice care since August 2018. He was born July 19, 1924 in Greenfield, Ohio, the son of John Otho Reay and Finnie Mae Mustard Reay. He grew up in the Dayton, Ohio area and graduated from the Dayton Public Schools Parker Co-op. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the World War II, where he was stationed in the Asia-Pacific Theatre. He earned the rank of Second Class Store Keeper before his honorable discharge at the end of the war. On October 18, 1947, he was married to Elaine Jean Hughes in Lawton, Michigan. They had two children, Larry Dale and Denise Marie. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. Elaine passed away on November 17, 2014. Jack was retired from the Dayton Police Department, where he served for 26 years, having earned the rank of Sergeant in the Detective Division. Following his retirement he was employed as a court baliff with the Montgomery County Court working with Judge Robert Brown for over a decade. He was a long time member of the Parkview Church of the Nazarene and the Dayton Northridge Church of the Nazarene, where Jack served as a church board member, church trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday school teacher. During his leisure he enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and furniture making, and spending time with his family and friends. Jack is survived by two children: a son, Larry Dale Reay and wife Gayle of Lewis Center, Ohio; and a daughter, Denise Marie Million and husband Gene of Westfield, Indiana; two granddaughters: Elisabeth “Beth” Jean Alfman of Dublin, Ohio and Sarah Elaine Van Zee and husband Andy of Indianapolis, Indiana; three great granddaughters: Avery Reay Alfman, Isabella Grace Van Zee and Elizabeth Elaine Van Zee; one sister, Ruth Ella Wilson, of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife of 67 years, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bryce Otho Reay and Arthur Leon Reay; three sisters, Dorothy Inas Obers, Helen Margie Hafer and Betty Ernestine Robinette. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 4701 Far Hills Avenue, Kettering, Ohio with Reverend Ron Justice officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial with military rites will be at David Cemetery.
