Harold E Miller

MILLER, Harold E., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Harold was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather who would walk through fire in a gasoline covered suit to be with family. Born December 4, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, Harold attended Stivers High School, and later served as a Petty Officer Third Class in the US Navy in San Diego and Japan, before returning to Dayton with his wife Kay, who he married in 1956, and together raised an extended family for 62 years. An accomplished tool designer thanks to his mentor and Uncle Earl Miller, Harold went on to co-own two tool and die businesses, while also participating in the Masonic Lodge and Dayton Agonis Club, where he was the one and only Michigan fan. However, his passion was coaching and cheering on student athletes. Over a 37 year career as a diving coach, Harold coached 11 NCAA All-Americans, two YMCA National Champions and one National Junior Olympic Champion, as well as a participant in the 1984 Olympic Trials. In 2003, Harold was the recipient of the WSU athletic department's Angelo "Tony" Tononi Award, which is presented to someone who has contributed above and beyond to Wright State athletics through the years. This year, Harold is a nominee to the Wright State Athletics Hall of Fame. To many, he is simply known as the grandfather of Wright State Swimming & Diving. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Lefty” Miller and Edith Miller Vicory, as well as his step father, Glenn Vicory. He is survived by his wife Kay, daughter and son-in-law Sue and Dan Albrecht, sons and daughters in law Mike Miller, Rick & Barb Miller, and Brad & Amy Miller, grandchildren Dan & Ann Albrecht, Tony & Shelly Albrecht, Hunter Miller, Greg, Brad, and Kyle Miller, Ashley and Sophie Miller, and great grandchildren Emilia & Maya Albrecht and Madelyn, Gabriella, and Henley Albrecht. The Miller family will be hosting family and friends for visitation at Tobias Funeral Home at 5471 Far Hills Ave. from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31st. A second visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home the following morning, Thursday, November 1st at 10:00, followed by a service at 11:00, and burial thereafter at David's Cemetery at 4600 Mad River Road. The family then welcomes family and friends to join them for a reception.
