Earl Ramon Hopkins, age 89, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Soin Medical Center. Earl was born on June 6, 1932 to parents Alfred James and Hazel Marie (Jones) Hopkins who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Charlotte (Kibler) Hopkins and a daughter, Cathy Hopkins.
Earl is survived by his children Mary (Michael) Jarratt and Charlene (Jeff) Stukenborg; grandchildren Matthew Jarratt, Charlotte Jarratt, Shawn Stukenborg, Daniel Stukenborg, and James Stukenborg. Earl was preceded in death by brothers Murray (Betty) Hopkins, Lorin (Elva) Hopkins, Alfred Lee Hopkins, Glenn (Sharon) Hopkins, and sisters, Charlotte (Don) Phillips, Dorthea (Don) Heltzel, and Carol (Lee) Roberts. Earl is survived by brothers Dale (Karin) Hopkins, David (Beryll) Hopkins, and sisters, Eileen (Don) Hazel, Jean (Walter) Armes, Erma (John) Flanagan, and Mary (Villi) Vulic.
Earl graduated from Cortland High School in 1950. He served in the US Army for four years and was stationed in Korea. He then attended Kent State University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. It was at Kent State that he met his wife, Charlotte Kibler. He graduated in 1958 and became a teacher in the Kettering City Schools. He would later earn his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Miami (Ohio). He continued to teach math mainly at Indian Riffle Junior High in Kettering until his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling, traveling with the St. Luke Leisure Club, and spending time with family and friends. He showed up at every family gathering with homemade pies. He spent his summers taking care of his hobby farm and canoeing the Little Miami River. He canoed all the sections from Yellow Springs Ohio to the Ohio River. When he was not working on his farm, he was mending fences at his daughter’s farm. He also enjoyed volunteer ushering at the Victoria Theater and Schuster Center in Downtown Dayton.
A visitation for Earl will be held Monday, March 21, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45432, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Deacon Bill LeCain presiding from St. Luke Catholic Church.
