David William Wanner, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton. David was preceded in death by his devoted parents Joseph and Martha Wanner, and is survived by his brother James Alan Wanner; sister Judi (Max) Weaver; nephews Joe (Michele) Wanner, Kirk (Jennifer) Weaver, Scott (Eva) Wanner, and Eric Weaver; four great-nieces Grace, Anna, and Allie Weaver and MacKenzie Wanner; and one great-nephew Caden Wanner.
Born on June 5, 1940 in Dayton, OH, David was a graduate of Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH and George Williams College in Chicago, IL. David was an Eagle Scout and began his career employed in Scouting Administration with the Moline, IL and Elkhart, IN Boy Scout Councils. Throughout his diverse career path, David also worked as an elementary school teacher, served six years in the National Guard Reserves, and worked for sixteen years at the Stanadyne, Inc. Automotive Distribution Center.
Dave loved spending time with his family, his mom’s home cooking, art and music, vacationing on Platte Lake, and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He introduced a dice game called Greedy to the family and it has brought countless hours of fun and laughter to family gatherings over the years. Despite a 15-year struggle with a rare neurological disease, Dave’s tenacious spirit, generous heart and mischievous smile helped him “keep on keepin’ on” and forever endeared him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
A small graveside prayer service will be held for immediate family at David’s Cemetery in Kettering, OH at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Optimized Senior Living and Hospice for their devoted care and support. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
