She was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 6, 1951, to parents William Van and Doris Haggard (Daniels) Fish who preceded her in death. Cindy is survived by her loving husband Stephen; children, Stephanie (Christopher) Elmerick, Lindsey (Ryan) Pleasants, and Casey Azuogu; grandchildren Grace Elmerick, Caleb Elmerick, and Hanna Elmerick, Kinsley Azuogu, Annabelle Pleasants, Connor Azuogu and Cohen Pleasants; sisters Nancy Tawney, Mary Ellen (David) Carpenter, Joanne (Scott) Grove and sister-in-law, Cinda Miller.
Cindy graduated from Fairmont East in 1969 and graduated from Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1972. Cindy also graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelors in Sociology in 1977. This ray of sunshine worked as a registered nurse at Miami Valley Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s in outpatient surgery and in the emergency room.
She was diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis in her twenties but continued working as an RN for a few years after her diagnosis. After leaving her work at the hospital, Cindy continued helping others by volunteering with the PTA, subbing in the school clinic, volunteering at church as a Sunday School leader, leading bible studies, and volunteered with countless other organizations.
She was a member of the Western Ohio Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was voted “Mother of the Year” by the MS Society in 1998. Cindy and her husband, Steve, ventured into business when they opened PJ’s Bookstore in Beavercreek, Ohio from 1988-1993.
Cindy’s true pride and joy were her 3 daughters, sons-in-law, and her 7 grandchildren. She attended dance competitions, piano recitals, soccer games, and more to support the loves of her life in all of the sports and activities they were involved in. She enjoyed playing cards, watching black and white movies, going for drives, eating desserts, doing word searches, and reading a good book. Cindy passed away peacefully surrounded by the people she loved most, on December 21, 2024. Cindy’s final act of service was to donate her brain and spinal cord to the UCLA Brain Research Institute in Los Angeles, California.
The family will hold a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2 PM at Hope United Methodist Church, 5980 Wilmington Pike Road, Dayton, Ohio 45459 with Pastor Jason Bunger presiding.
