Jo was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 10, 1949 to John Sherman and Maryellen Sherman. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. Jo met her husband Richard Murphy (Murph) of almost 55 years after she took a bus ride in March of 1968 to visit her best friend who was at college in Troy, NY and met Murph during this trip. They began dating long distance between Poughkeepsie and Bloomfield, NJ. for the next two years. The Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 was one of their favorite and most memorable dates they enjoyed.
Jo and Murph were married on May 3, 1970 in Poughkeepsie. They settled in New Jersey and Jo began a career with a major pharma firm.
Jo always considered her most important “job” in life was having and raising a family. She and Murph have two beautiful sons, Todd and Jonathan. Jo was very proud of the outstanding adults they became with their families.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Johnny.
Jo is survived by her husband Murph, sons Todd and Jonathan, Todd and Marie’s children JJ (14), Andrew (9), and Avery(8), Jonathan’s fiancée Erika and her twin boys, Levi (10) and Mason (10); brother Steve Murphy and wife Pam, sister Marianne Murphy, brother Michael Murphy with wife Barbara and their children Andrea and Michael, brother Michael Fescoe and his wife Melanie and their children Michael and Peter, her brother Randy Fescoe and his wife Beth and their daughter Meghan, and her brothers Greg Fescoe and, Lynn Fescoe.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Wednesday April 2nd from 4-7 PM at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 2401 S University Dr, Davie, FL 33324.
Jo’s family wishes to thank Dr. Dante of Pennsylvania, Dr. Pascal of Florida, Dr. Greenstein, her primary care physician, and many doctors and staff who worked with Jo at the National Institutes of Health and other organizations where Jo participated in various medical studies.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach, FL. Jo loved this place and spent many mornings during sea turtle nesting and hatching seasons on these Loggerhead beaches. Contributions can be made at marinelife.org.
