In Memory of my friend Tandy Murphy - Part 2

He was a raucous, sarcastic, and wonderfully imperfect human being. His honesty, sharp as a razor, cut through the noise, always delivered with a hint of sarcasm and a genuine concern for the human experience. He turned to creative pursuits in times of turmoil.  Tandy was no one-trick pony. His creativity was a kaleidoscopic journey, from canvas to dance floor, from hilarious letters to mixtapes that made me want to dance full time. Even in the darkest pits of despair, Tandy's humor shone through like a neon sign in a desert night.  When he was down, he created.  He would pick up a paintbrush, build a quilt, tie dye a t-shirt, make a mix tape or immerse himself in the world of fish tanks - a testament to his irrepressible spirit.

I plan to remember Tandy not only with the tears I cannot stop, but with the echoes of his laughter, the rhythm of his dance, and the vivid strokes of his creativity. May you rest in peace, my friend.  I hope you are in the best place possible regardless of our conversations on this topic!

Tandy, a true lover of roller coasters for as long as I knew him, might have said, "Buy the ticket, light one up and take the ride!"

In Memory of my friend Tandy Murphy - part 1

It is with a heavy heart, that I bid farewell to my friend Tandy Murphy. He had energy that could light up a room. Tandy entered my life in 1975 at the beginning of the 10th grade.  He was a whirlwind of dance moves, roller-skating prowess, and a love of music.

Little did I know, back in those high school days, that Tandy's antics and infectious laughter would weave their way into the fabric of my life. His creativity knew no bounds - from dance floors to canvases, from irreverent letters to mixtapes that could cure the most stubborn of blues. Tandy's humor was his secret weapon, even in the darkest of times.

Life took us on separate paths, and I lost touch with Tandy for several years. When I retired, I made it a mission to reconnect with my long-lost friend. The gap was significant, from about 2010 to 2020.  During that time, Tandy faced his own battles including the loss of his best friend.  I wasn’t there for him when he needed me.

Life had scattered us to the winds, and for that chunk of time, Tandy slipped through the cracks of mine. Reconnecting was a task made easier with the help of our mutual accomplice and friend, Linda.  To aid in reconnecting the threads of our lives I had saved emails, spanning the missing years.  There were pictures and a treasure trove of laughter.  In the process of reconnecting, I regret that Tandy never received the responses I sent him because I was using a series of stale dated email accounts. Those saved emails, floating in the digital abyss, are likely causing chaos wherever they landed – a fitting tribute to Tandy's irreverent spirit.

I finally reconnected with Tandy a few years ago.  During these years, we texted almost every day.  His passing has left an enormous hole in my life and in my heart.  It is not enough.  I wasn’t done yet.

Tandy's honesty was a double-edged sword – it cut through the nonsense, called out the BS, but always came from a place of genuine care.

I've known Tandy since grade school. His mom was a cub scout den mother for us for a while. May his brother and sister and the entire family find comfort.  💕

He had a way of capturing the best moments in his photos, I miss you and love you very much.

Tandy loved the rides at the fairgrounds particularly the Roller twister bump-0-whirl. He always said “ no eating cheese curds first”
