Sherry Lane (Rich) Deel passed away on October 12, 2023 at Sacred Heart Medical Center following a short illness. Sherry was loved by all for her caring and thoughtful nature. She enjoyed having company over for good food and conversation. She shared stories of her life and confessed her faith to all that would listen. This was such a wonderful example to all she met.
Sherry was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on March 20, 1935, to Earl Richard and Bessie Virginia (Stanly) Rich. She lived most of her life in the Wilmington area and enjoyed being close to the beach. Sherry graduated from New Hanover High School in 1953 and attended Salem College for a brief time. She married the late Carlton “Buddy” Newton in 1955. They had 4 children. She went on to finish her studies and graduated from The University of N.C. (Wilmington) in 1980 the same year as her son Brad. In 1994 Sherry married Clarence Deel the love of her life. They felt so blessed to have found one another. They remained in North Carolina until 2015 when they relocated to Davenport, Washington.
Sherry was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. She was strong in her living faith and was bold to invite all she met to come and see. She had a caretaking nature and loved to spend time with family and friends. She touched many hearts and will be dearly missed.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband Clarence Deel, her three sons, Carl (Karen) Newton, Brad (Valerie) Newton, Stanley (Claudia) Newton, daughter Teresa (Gene) Raisanen, step-sons Darryl (Rose) Deel, Jonathon (Rosalie) Deel, Wayne (Juliene) Deel, Gary (Jennifer) Deel, Matthew (Arlene) Deel, step-daughter Kristen (Deel) DaMaronese, her brother Robert “Reb” (Irene) Rich, sister-in-law Lisa (Dick) Rich, 11 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, numerous beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Bessie Rich and her brother Richard “Dick” Rich.
A funeral service for Sherry will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 35900 SR 25 N, Davenport, Washington.
