CHANGE OF ADDRESS
On August 16, 2017, Bettie Bundy moved from her life-long home in Edwall to her forever-home in Heaven.
Born on November 2, 1929 to Hale and Blanche (Brown) Simpson, she joined siblings, Phyllis, Robert and Richard. She grew up on their family farm and graduated from Edwall High School in 1947. On September 23, 1947, she married Bud (Loring E.) Bundy. They lived in the Edwall area, where they raised three children: Leslie, Jeanne and Cheryl. In addition to her jobs as housewife and mom, Bettie worked as school board clerk for the Edwall School District and Postal Clerk for the Edwall Post Office. She later became Postmaster of that office until her retirement in November, 1989. Bettie was a member of the Waukon Grange and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.
Bettie always enjoyed music. In addition to playing violin in the high school orchestra, she enjoyed playing the piano throughout her life. She was the pianist for the Edwall Methodist Church and choir for several years, and was also the accompanist for many school music programs.
Bettie enjoyed sewing and cooking. It was not unusual for our family to have extra guests for dinner. Often it was people we didn't even know, but who needed a hot meal. At family holiday dinners, Bettie was often asked to make one of her trademark specialties, ...her dinner rolls, sweet potatoes, peach pie and potato salad just to name a few. Making strawberry jam and canning peaches were also high on her list, and she enjoyed sharing them with family and friends.
She loved her home and yard, and took pride in keeping it up. She could often be found on her lawnmower after the sun had gone down, mowing around the buildings and keeping the grass and weeds trimmed. Hollyhocks and Irises were some of her favorites. Home was important, but she was adventurous too. Bettie's travels took her to Germany, Calgary, Mexico, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Nashville, Branson, and Alaska to name a few.
One of the things Bettie will be remembered most for is her letter-writing. She loved writing to her friends and family, and so appreciated getting letters from them! It was important to keep in touch with people she cared about. And she was so appreciative of people's kindnesses.
Bettie is now rejoined with her parents and siblings, her husband, Bud and grandson, Tim Floyd. She leaves behind her three children: Leslie Bundy and Susan, Jeanne and Jon Floyd, Cheryl and Steve Krupke; grandchildren: Brian Bundy, James Bundy, Jared (Anneliese) Floyd, Nate (Amy) Krupke and Lindsay (Matthew) McDonald; and eight great-grandchildren: Christian Bundy, Jessica Bundy, Cora and Mieka Floyd, Eli, Norah and Owen Krupke, and Evan McDonald.
A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M., on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Edwall United Methodist Church in Edwall, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lincoln Hospital Foundation, 10 Nicholls St, Davenport, WA 99122, or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, WA.
