Sara E. Gabe

Sara Ellen “Sally” Gabe, 73, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Ridgecrest Village Retirement Community. Per her request, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services at this time and interment will be at a later date in Greene, IA. Memorials in her name can be made to the Elks Lodge #298 in Davenport, 4400 West Central Park, Davenport, IA 52804. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Sally was born in Jackson, Mississippi on July 4, 1949. She was the only daughter of Col. (Ret) Harry Alan and Margaret (Richards) Snyder. She married the love of her life, Donald W. Gabe on August 31, 1974, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2020.

Before retiring, she worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist at the former St Luke’s Hospital in Davenport.

Sally and Don were active members in the Davenport Elks Lodge, Rock Island Moose Lodge and the Maquoketa Eagles. Throughout her life, Sally enjoyed keeping busy and took up fishing, canoeing, archery, crafts, reading, completing logic puzzles, and wrestling the occasional slot machine. She also enjoyed traveling with her “Moose” friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her brother, Alan (Kathy) Snyder, Meridian, ID, brother and sister-in- law, Dennis (Linnea) Gabe, mother-in-law, Irene Gabe, all of Greene, IA, nephew, Eric (Bethany) Gabe, Fruitland, IA and close friends Pat Davis and Rose Miller. Our deepest gratitude to her neighbors for keeping an eye on her house and to the staff at Ridgecrest and Genesis Hospice for the wonderful care shown to Sara these last few months. Your kindness will never be forgotten!
