Kurt Kuehnhackl, 87, of Davenport passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities in Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in The Runge Mortuary Chapel, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Kurt was born June 13, 1923 in Czechoslovakia the son of Oskar and Paula (Schoeberl) Kuehnhackl. He was united in marriage to Ann Cybinska in Germany. He later married Kay Milam. Kurt married Kay Schmidt October 17, 1992 in Bettendorf.
Kurt emigrated to the United States in 1952 with his wife and two daughters. He began his life here as a farmer on land where North Park Mall currently sits. He and his family enjoyed an active social life within the German community of the Quad Cities.
Kurt retired in 1985 from Desaulniers Printing Company after 30 years. Kurt is perhaps best known as owner/operator of Kurt’s Green Acres on Jersey Ridge Road. Gardening was always a part of Kurt’s life, but after retiring, he transformed his hobby into a successful business selling homegrown fruits and vegetables. He especially enjoyed his role as “Farmer Kurt”, teaching hundreds of Quad Cities preschool children about farming and making apple cider.
His memberships included QC Philatelic Society, many German-American Clubs, the Illowa Chess Club and Davenport Moose Club.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Kay, Davenport; children and spouses, Ilona (Dan) McGuiness, Baltimore, MD; Gerti (Phillip) Kent, Bettendorf, Iowa; Kurt (Cara) Kuehnhackl, Orlando, FL; brother, Anton Kuehnhackl, Davenport; sisters, Hilde Kalich and Paula Sturm, both of Munich, Germany; stepchildren and spouses, Michael(Gina) Milam, Bettendorf; Kari Milam; Preston (Marie) Schmidt II, Vista, CA; Doreen (Rob) Meyncke, Dardenne Prairie, MO; Dave (Angie) Schmidt, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Benjiman Kent, Chesterfield, MO; Alexandyr Kent, Shreveport, LA; 2 great grandchildren, Payne and Bronwyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Erich Kuehnhackl and sister Erna Bannasch.
