John Robert Gull, 29, of Bettendorf, Iowa unexpectedly passed away from an enlarged heart. John indeed had a big heart. He said the purpose of his life was to help others, and he freely gave to his family, friends, and the sick.
He was fiercely loyal to his many friends and his dog Odin. An expert networker, he was always making a deal. John was an intellect who spoke with insight on many subjects. He supported causes he believed in, even at great personal cost.
John laughed big and enjoyed a good time. John loved outdoor sports, especially fishing. He caught his first fish at age 4 and never lost his love of the catch. John enjoyed physical work in tree services and building construction. John was a large man who lived and loved large.
John was born May 4, 1994 in Milford, Delaware to Robert “Bob” and Dorothy “Dottie” (Speakman) Gull and passed away Aug 2 in Milan, Illinois.
Those left to honor John’s memory are his father and his step-mother Jan Beckner Gull of Bettendorf, IA; his brother Andrew Gull of Davenport, IA; his sister, Lauren Gull of Stanwood, WA; his grandparents, Clark and Lareen Gull of Marion, IA; his grandmother, Mary Ann Chicosky of Millsboro, DE; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his mother and his grandfather, Robert Speakman, Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 4 - 7 pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in John’s memory to Redeemer Lutheran Church Music Fund.
