Davenport -- Helen J. “Sis” Hurlburt, 91, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Silvercrest Assisted Living in Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Runge Mortuary. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice.
Helen was born May 16, 1924 in Davenport, a daughter of Walter and Amanda (Bruhn) Kistenmacher. She married Theodore Hurlburt on August 22, 1948 in Davenport.
She graduated from Davenport High School in 1942 and worked as a secretary for Smith & Swift, Equitable of Iowa, and Lane and Waterman, retiring in 1993.
Helen was a loving and caring person to all who knew her. She was “Gramma Sis” to many. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She loved garage sales, ballroom dancing and playing the organ, but most of all loved to be with her family. Her personality was remarkable. She was always kind.
Survivors include daughters Carol Daniels (Davenport) and Linda (Mark) Froeschle (DeWitt); grandchildren Melinda Cline and Leah Daniels (Davenport), Bryant Froeschle and Brad (Andrea) Froeschle (Raleigh, NC), and Amy Froeschle (Davenport); and great-grandchildren Carlie Cline, Kendall Cline, Leilanna Collier, Elijah Daniels, and Kalea Young; her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Myron Swanson, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, her sister, Lois Kistenmacher, and brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Helen E. Hurlburt.
