Dorothy Genevieve Bateman

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 26, at the Blue Grass Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Dorothy was born March 24, 1929 to Steven and Hester (Michaud) Bates in Hannibal, MO. She was employed at River King Catering for over 20 years before retiring.

Dorothy was an active member of the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother, also helping to raise her 2 grandsons, granddaughter, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Dorothy loved flowers, gardening, bird watching, shopping, baking, going to the casino, and auto racing. She also loved riding her motorcycle up until her 60’s when she no longer was able.

Those left to cherish her memory include her grandsons, Fred (Amanda) Remley and Ben Remley; granddaughter, Jody (Brad) Walter; great grandchildren, Heather, Tamera, Jordan, Courtney, and Kassie; and great-great grandchildren, Ronnie, Hunter, Peyton, Bentlee, Leena, and Holly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime companion, John “Scotty” Dunnett; daughters, Darlene (Keith) Remley and Diana (Ron) Haut; along with her siblings, Daniel Bates, Virginia Snyder, Margaret Schoonover, Steve Bates, and Harold Bates.
