Donald “Don” Lewis McLaughlin, 69, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2022 in his home in Davenport, IA. Don was born on July 19, 1952 in Cherokee, IA to parents William “Bill” and Verna (Mueller) McLaughlin. He attended high school in Cherokee and worked at the family business, McLaughlin and Son Electric, which stood for almost 50 years. He lived in Cherokee for much of his life, relocating to Davenport in the early 1990’s. Don was married to Nancy (Knutson) McLaughlin in 1969 and the couple had 3 children together: Michelle, Amy and Michael. Don was married to Trudy (Scheper) McLaughlin in 1997 and was a big part of Trudy’s, Matthew and Sarah, and her grandchildren’s lives. Later in his life, he married Crystal McMullen in Clearwater, Fl on Valentine’s Day of 2021. He worked various jobs throughout his life, most recently driving truck for CPC Logistics out of Davenport, making his route to Kansas City.
Don was a social man who enjoyed many hobbies, including boating and riding Harley’s. He was an avid motorcycle rider, attending Sturgis and other events frequently. Donald was a longtime member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport. His family and friends will always remember his presence at important events and his phone calls while on the road.
Donald is survived by his wife, Crystal, of Davenport; his children, Michelle (Terry) Koedam of Doon, IA, Amy (Kelly) Bice of Cherokee, IA, and Michael (Angela) McLaughlin of Cherokee, IA; step-daughter, Taylor McMullen of Coal Valley, IL; siblings, Robert (Linda) McLaughlin of Akron, IA, Sylvia (Bruce) Strand of Clearwater, FL, and Marcia Phipps of Thornhill, TN; former spouse and confidant, Trudy McLaughlin, her children Matthew (Alexis) Scheper, Sara Scheper, and their families; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Verna McLaughlin, infant sister Linda Marie McLaughlin, nephew Bruce Irvin Strand, and great-nephew Michael Wayne McLaughlin
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Family will be present before the service at 1:00 p.m. and interment and reception to follow. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don’s life. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support through this difficult time.
