Don was born on February 19, 1966 to Donald Childers, Sr. and Wanda (Kopp) Marolf in Davenport, IA. He was raised in Bettendorf, IA, by Jeff Marolf and his mother. On November 14, 1992 he married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie Witt. They enjoyed 40 years together.
Don was an accomplished salesman, an avid boater, golfer, and loved aviation. In 2013 he was awarded “Boater of the Year” by Living Land and Waters. He regularly attended local airshows and obtained his pilot’s license. In his younger days he had a hand in starting the first soccer team at Bettendorf High School.
Don loved traveling with friends and family. He enjoyed discovering new places. He was a “foodie” and enjoyed an ice cold Miller Lite. He was also an avid Chicago sports fan.
He never met a stranger and was considered “the party planner” by friends and family. His sense of humor and kind nature will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Stephanie Childers; children, Nicole “Coco” Childers and Blake Childers; father, Donald Childers, Sr.; sister, Angelina (Jay) Kruse; and his extended LeClaire canal boating family, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jeff.
