Don K. Bybee

Don K. Bybee, 80, of Davenport passed away May 28, 2016. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 12 Noon, Thursday, June 2, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Don was born in rural Missouri. A graduate of West Liberty High School in 1953, he served in the US Army. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose College. On October 19, 1961 he married Janice E. Pierce in Coral Gables, Florida. Having taught at St. Ambrose, Don worked in medical technology at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport and retired from Metropolitan Medical Laboratory in 1997. Don was a state-registered member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. In earlier years he was an Eagle Scout. He was an avid reader, a dedicated gardener, enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye football and was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Survivors include his wife Janice, daughter Dr. Alison (Declan) Bybee; two granddaughters: Anna and Hazel; sister Reba (David) Ripley; two nephews: Steven and Jason Ripley and a brother-in-law Stephen (Jenny) Cox.
