A visitation will be held Saturday, March 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary. Military honors will be held after the visitation. Memorials in his honor may be made to the American Lung Association or American Cancer Society.
Delbert was born November 6, 1936 to Herman and Viola (Basquin) Arps in Davenport, IA. At a young age, Del was introduced to the world of music. He went on to learn the accordion and the organ and passed on his love for music to his children. While in high school, Del apprenticed as a machinist at Modern Machine & Tool Co. (which later he became the owner of). He was an active member in the Navy ROTC until 1955 when he graduated from Davenport High and then went on to proudly serve his country with the U.S. Navy. On June 24, 1972 he was united in marriage to Margaret Arndt. He worked as a machinist, which was his passion, for companies such as The Rock Island Arsenal, Roemer Machine, and lastly owner/ operator of Modern Machine & Tool Co.
Delbert was a wonderful man who cherished time spent with his family and friends doing anything from Camping, fishing, boating, and golfing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Margaret Arps; children: Brenda Zinger of Davenport, IA, Doug (Tammy) Arps of Yuma, AZ, Roger (Beverly) Leibold of Bettendorf, IA, Leanne (Wally) Ewoldt of Davenport, IA, Deb (Nick) McNabb of Davenport, IA, and Dan (Mandy) Arps of Davenport, IA; along with 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Manchester.
