In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lenox Volunteer Fire Department.
Dave was born on January 3, 1947 and passed away at his home the morning of July 25. 2020, with his loving wife Zelda of 53 years by his side. Dave graduated from Lenox High School in 1965. After graduating, he joined the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Dave married his sweetheart on July 12, 1967, in Clearfield, Iowa. To their marriage two children were born, Paul and Cindy.
Dave worked for Tote’s Manufacturing after high school until 1980 working in multiple departments as well as farming on the Winslow family farm. He also enjoyed his 20 years as a volunteer fireman for both the Lenox and Sharpsburg fire departments.
In 1980 Dave and Zelda started a new adventure and purchased the propane business, Winslow Sales and Service. Their customers always said that they provided not only propane but peace of mind too.
In 2000 it was time for Dave and Zelda’s next adventure They sold their beloved business, bought an RV, and hit the road to travel the United States. Dave was able to fulfill his dream of visiting every state except Alaska – he had had enough of the Iowa winters. “They found joy, they found fun, they found laughter in the sun.”
In 2001 Dave and Zelda contracted with the Corp of Engineers and began working as campground hosts from approximately April to September every year. This allowed them to enjoy time watching their “Fab Five” grow. They finished their last contract the fall of 2019. They gained many lifelong friends during their time with the Corp.
Texas....what can we say....Dave loved his winters in Texas!!! The beach, the wings, the oysters, the drinks, card games, morning coffee, music on the South Padre Island Beach, dancing, and friends. Their song was “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You!” Dave and Zelda had a love like no other....not perfect but strong and never ending.
The “Fab Five,” the grandkids, nothing put that ornery twinkle in his eye and smile on his face like his Fab Five! He treasured every moment planning games and adventures with them from trips to Adventureland, white water rafting, camping, Easter egg hunts, Minute to Win It games, food challenges (hot peppers, oysters, ect.), scavenger hunts, and the list goes on and on.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Darlene Winslow and sister Mary Matheny.
