Anna Emma Keppy, 95, of Davenport, IA passed on May 20, 2012 at the Davenport Lutheran Home. A celebration of her life will be held 10:00AM Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Runge Mortuary Chapel Davenport. Contributions may be made to the Davenport Lutheran Home or the American Cancer Foundation.
Born January 21, 1917, daughter of Anna (Danielsen) Keppy and Henry Keppy Sr. Anna attended District #8, a one room school until 8th grade in Sheridan Township, J.B. Young Jr. High School, and Davenport High School. In 1941 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. She then completed 2 additional years of courses at Northwestern University.
Anna began working as a Home Demonstration Agent for Wayne County, residing in Corydon, IA. There she helped organize the Business & Professional Club of Corydon, IA serving as charter president for 3 years. She was the program director for “Bit & Spur”, an organization of horseback riding for under-graduate women. Anna loved riding her favorite horse 7th Haven.
Anna went on to a career as a business woman in Chicago, IL, working 3 years in sales for Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in management & supervisors positions. She worked 5 years in direct sales for Field Enterprises, publisher of Childcraft & World Books, serving 3 years as National Traveling Supervisor throughout the United States.
Anna was active in the Cosmic Circle of Fellowship in Chicago, IL and was the Director of the New Age Forum, sponsoring speakers from all over the United States. She completed the Napoleon Hill’s Master Course for Teachers with honors. She went on to teach the Science of Success at School of the Ozarks, and later in Miami, FL, New York, NY, Chicago, IL, California, and the Davenport School system. She also served as the Program Director for the Quad City New Age Research Society.
Back in Davenport, she became a Charter member of the Schleswig-Holstein Society and began conducting flower arranging classes in her home and various places. She gave numerous programs in the Quad Cities and beyond with the theme “Flowers, Philosophy & You.” She also designed flowers for some of the local flower shops.
Anna was a kind, unique, interesting and loving person, who was the family historian. She loved nature and the beauty it holds. Teaching and learning were very high priorities in her life. She loved her family’s farming background. She had special love for children as they did for her. She was loved and will be missed.
Survivors include many nieces & nephews, extended to great, and great great nieces & nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Anna & Henry Keppy Sr.; sisters Mary (Walter) Dengler, Martha (Normal) Meyer, Norma (Ernest) Albers; brothers John (Clara), Henry (Norma, Ralph (Viola), Charlie (Elnora), Raymond (Jeanette), & Roy (Myrtle).
