Born July 23, 1926 in Yarmouth, N.S.
Oldest child of Blanche Mae (Stewart) and Edward Warren Gridley
Predeceased by her parents, and sister Margaret Joyce (Gridley) Walsh
Upon graduation from Yarmouth High School Louise became Commercial Clerk for Maritime Tel. & Tel. Ltd in Yarmouth, marrying Ralph Vincent Wilcox in 1947 and moving to Dartmouth where they resided until retirement in 1977. The couple were active in the community and church life of St. Lukes Anglican Church, Dartmouth, bringing up their children in this city and where she was secretary at Caledonia Junior High. Upon Ralph’s retirement from Air Canada they moved to Factorydale, Kings Co. to spend the next 28 years, returning to the Halifax area in 2005. Louise enjoyed her retirement years quilting with her valley friends and worshipping at Christ Church in Berwick (the monthly church luncheons benefitted from her cooking skills). Her door was always open to relatives, friends and neighbors. An attempt was always made to make a yearly trip to their favorite vacation spot, Barbados.
Everyone enjoyed Sunday meals at Nana’s sure to be followed by treats baked in her oil stove of which she was very proud.
Ralph predeceased Louise in 2008 after over sixty years as partners. She is survived by daughter Nancy Elizabeth (Jarrett) Smith (James Smith) and son Philip Ralph Wilcox (Suzanne Gilbert).
