Born in New Glasgow on June 27, 1953, Linda was a foster child from birth. Annie and Joe Goodyear took her in to their loving home when she was 10 years old.
She loved to read and possibly inspired by Florence Nightingale and other strong women, she always wanted to be a nurse and to help people. After graduating from New Glasgow High School she applied to and was accepted to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital where she graduated as an RN in 1975.
Her first position was at a major hospital in Calgary Alberta. While in Calgary she applied to and was accepted for a position in a major hospital in Texarkana Texas where she became head nurse in the ICU ward.
From there she applied to and was accepted for a position in a hospital in New Orleans Louisiana. She always wanted to see the Marti Gras.
Her next position was at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, but she wasn’t done travelling yet. While at the VG she saw an ad for a position in Saudi Arabia and she jumped at the opportunity. She worked at a large American Hospital in Saudi for approximately three years. From there she moved to England for about a year and then moved back to Nova Scotia. It didn’t take long for her to be accepted for a position at the Dartmouth General Hospital where she worked for approximately 35 years.
Linda had a very exciting working career and visited many countries including Egypt, Tanzania, Greece, Italy, England and others. She made many friends in many countries along the way and inspired people with her work ethic, kindness, warm heart, sense of humour and her infectious laugh. And of course her adventure stories.
Linda was pre-deceased by Annie and Joe Goodyear and their son Joey Goodyear.
She is survived by Doug and Don Goodyear Sharon Goodyear MacKenzie and many foster siblings.
