Ida Bliss Smith

February 20, 1927- September 16, 2024

Now “safe in the arms of Jesus”, Ida passed away September 16th at the age of 97 in Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, Dartmouth, NS.

She was the daughter of the late JP and Amy (Cooper) MacDonald. She was predeceased by her husband Gordie Smith on May 19, 1971 and her sisters Shirley, Marie, and Ruth.

Surviving are her three sons Robert (Tammy) Smith, Eastern Passage; twin sons David (Paulette) MacDonald, Meteghan River, NS and Wayne (Joan) MacDonald of Orangeville, ON.

She was a life member of Christ Church, Dartmouth where she sung in the choir. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Chapter OES61, from whom in 2020 she received her 60 year jewel.

Never forgotten for their help with Robert during Gordie’s battle with cancer Cst Don Landry and his wife for the drive to the hospital on the day Gordie died. Special friends who helped her and visited her over the years Theresa Nicholls, Louise Burns, Rick Young, Frances Hicks, Barb Lapierre (cousin), Heather Romo, Sherry Crowell, Donna Pollard and others.

Special thanks to Northwood Care, especially Betty, VON for their care in order that she may stay in her home up until 2 years ago. Also thanks to Saint Vincent’s Nursing home and Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the last two years.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 1pm from Christ Church, 50 Wentworth St, Dartmouth with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sackville.
