Hugh James Morgan

Hugh was a pillar of faith, family, and community, whose presence touched the lives of many. Born into this world on January 15, 1953, he departed peacefully on April 28 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.

Hugh's devotion to his wife, Cecilia, was unwavering throughout their 37 years of marriage. Their journey began as neighbors, blossoming into a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Together, they exemplified the true meaning of commitment and companionship.

A devout Catholic, Hugh's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He served with dedication as a Knight of Columbus, embodying the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity in all aspects of his being.

In his professional life, Hugh enjoyed a long and prosperous career in sales before embarking on a fulfilling second chapter with Dignity Memorial. His commitment to excellence and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Beyond his work, Hugh cherished the simple joys of life. He relished in striking a good deal and the camaraderie of coffee outings with his closest friends.

Yet, the true light of Hugh's life was his beloved grandson, Connor, whom he adored and helped raise. Their bond was one of immeasurable love and joy, bringing endless happiness to Hugh's heart. Connor loved his “Boppie Hugh”.

Hugh was predeceased by his mother, M. Clare, and his father, Frank R. Morgan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cecilia; loving daughter, Ashley (Marc Coulter); cherished grandson, Connor; faithful friends Brian Peddle and Mark Flannigan; sister, Fran; as well as nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Nick Forward and nurse Danielle in Hematology, and Dr. Preston in Palliative Care for their compassionate care and support during Hugh's final days.

In memory of Hugh, friends are invited to honor his spirit of generosity and kindness by making donations to the Aplastic Anemia Association of Canada, or by providing meals or necessities to local homeless encampments.

Though Hugh may no longer walk among us, his legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light he shared so generously in life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13 from 6-8pm at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Memorial service will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at 10am from Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, 35 Colby Dr, Dartmouth with Father Peter Hanna officiating. Interment will follow the service at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
