Rose, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Elvin and Dorothy (Neily)Poole. Survived by
his wife, June Poole(Fraser), daughter Cheryl Baxter(Scott), son Keith Poole(Natasha),
grandchildren Noah, Luke and Jillian; sister Jean Hall, Shediac, N.B. He was predeceased by
sisters, Barbara, Anne, Nancy, Myrtle, brothers Wesley, Edward(Sonny) and Melbourne(Meb).
Harry got his start in construction with Cameron Contracting Ltd. in 1955. He left to found
Woodlawn Construction in 1969 and Amber Contracting Limited in 1994 where he specialized
in sewer and water and road work. He was a hands on business owner with a group of loyal
employees. Special thanks to Murna Baker who worked with Harry for the past 42 years.
Harry generously gave of his time to many associations over the years. He served on the Board
of Directors for the N.S. Road Builders Association, Board for the Canadian Construction
Association, member and chairman of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia, served on
the Dartmouth Lakes Advisory Board, Mic Mac Aquatic Club Board of Directors, past president of Canoe
Championships, Board for The Dartmouth Sportsplex. He was a member of the Austenville
Owl's Club , Sundowner’s International, Philae Temple Shriners and Woodlawn Masonic Lodge.
Recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Rotary Foundation; The Kiwanis Mel Osborne
Fellow Award, Citizen of the Year Award by Dartmouth Natal Day Committee. Harry was
inducted into the Maritime Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2012 as a lifetime member. His great
sports love was racing, where he was part owner of Scotia Speedworld. Harry always enjoyed
the Quebec International Bonspiel which he attended for the past 26 years. He was an avid
fishermen and hunter and truly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family at his camp in
Elderbank and the Owl’s Nest. All friends and family are welcomed to come and celebrate his life.
A funeral service will be held in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 216 School St., Dartmouth at
11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, Rev. Dr. P.A. Sandy McDonald officiating. Reception to follow at the
Austenville Owl’s Club, 34 Oakdale Cres. A private internment service will be held at a later date.
